Chicagoland Speedway was built in fall 1999 and opened for racing in juin 2001. The venue features a D-shaped tri-oval track with four 18-degree banked turns and an 11-degree banked frontstretch. The track also features a five-degree banked rear stretch.

One option is to create a street course where NASCAR events could be held. The street course, which would include Grant Park and other downtown streets such as Michigan Avenue, is being considered. It might be difficult for NASCAR to come to Chicagoland but there are still potential opportunities for the speedway. Joliet had meetings with NASCAR representatives about future plans for the speedway. However, there is no concrete plan.
